It sure sounds easy enough doesn’t it? You don’t have to leave the house and you still get to bring in a comfortable income! Such as the life of many work at home moms. Is it really that simple? It depends on what type of work you choose to do. If you’re thinking about joining the ranks of work at home moms, you may want to be alert to the following pointers.

When considering which profession to choose, keep in mind the ages of your children. Regardless as to how old your children are if they live at home with you, you will need a schedule. Working from home does not always mean that you can work any hours, especially if you have a family.

When working outside the home you wake up at a certain time, get your children up and ready, take them to school or daycare, and then head off to your job where you work a certain number of hours. It’s a schedule that not only works for you, but your family as well. What will your schedule be like if you decide to become one of the moms who work from home? After being in the workforce for several years, at first you will be tempted to work haphazardly, whenever you feel like it. As long as your ultimate deadlines are met, what difference should it make? If you choose to work from home in this manner, you’ll find yourself becoming very unorganized very quickly and also you’ll find yourself becoming discouraged. This is when you begin to realize how important having a schedule can be, yes even while you’re working from home…especially while you’re working from home!

Communication with your family is key if you are to be a successful work at home mom. Everyone should be aware of what your work hours are, and this will mean that you will have to sit down with everyone and explain to them the importance of what “work time” means to you and what it can mean for them. This way, they know not to interfere with mom while she’s working unless there is an emergency. Talk to them about what a legitimate emergency is and always have a plan in place as to how emergencies are to be handled. Even if you are a work at home mom emergencies can and do happen. As they grow, they will learn to appreciate how hard you worked to stay at home with them and that you truly made the best decision…to be a work at home mom!

How to make Home Employment work for you when you have children at home.

How do they do it? How do people who work from home manage their schedules when they have children? The importance of having a scheduled time to work cannot be stressed enough. Once you’ve decided what your work hours will be, you’ll also need a place to work. Someplace quiet where you will not be disturbed is recommended. Some even employ the services of a babysitter or utilize daycare while working. Some may disagree with this concept because the whole idea of home employment usually is either to save money on babysitting, or to spend more time with their children. This is something you will have to decide for yourself, depending on what type of work you choose to do. Some who have a daycare in their home, (as their profession) choose to keep their children at home with them and allow them to play with the other children being watched.

If you have a virtual office job such as data entry, medical transcription or customer service, especially if it involves speaking with clients on the phone, having your children supervised outside of the home may be another option for you. Having your children outside of the home does not always mean that they have to go to daycare. If you really think about it and utilize your networking skills and the internet to connect with other work from home mothers, you can schedule “play dates” with the other mother’s children when their mothers are not working. When you are not working you may wish to return the favor…actually, it would be in your best interest to return the favor!

If you are serious about making your job from home work for you, take advantage of the internet and use the discussion groups to contact other mothers. Don’t go it alone. Remember, just because you chose home employment does not mean you have to cut yourself off from the workforce altogether. You are now entering into a different world of working, one that allows for more flexibility, more time with your children and the opportunity to keep bringing home the bacon!
