Where to Find a Legitimate Work at Home Job

Posted on 28. Mar, 2010 by support in Work At Home

The Internet is filled with all kinds of work at home job opportunities. Many of them are legitimate. Unfortunately, a few bad apples have come in and given all online job opportunities a bad name in recent years.

Yes, there are some scams out there. Unfortunately, the scams seem to be getting all the press lately. Perhaps, they are so widely recognized because they do outnumber the legitimate opportunities. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of legitimate opportunities to make a decent income from home at any time of the year.

So, where do you look for real, honest to goodness, jobs where you can work at home?

1) Look at your own work place. Believe it or not, many companies that are looking for ways to cut costs are very interested in having some employees work out of their homes. Not all jobs are conducive to this. Some jobs require workers to be on the premises but there are many jobs, even some jobs in a lesser capacity that can be done from home. Some of these include transcribing work, telephone work, computer programming, translating documents, and even many secretarial and clerical jobs can be done from home. Ask your current employer if it would be possible to work from home on a part or full time basis and see what arrangements can be made. If you’re really serious about it consider a pay cut (keep in mind potential savings like parking, professional wardrobe, gas, and business lunches that you’d be saving in the trade-off) or a reduction in benefits in exchange for the opportunity to work from home.

2) Online job sites that are devoted to work at home positions. There are some job sites that specifically cater to work at home jobs. Many of these are bidding sites where job seekers bid on various jobs in hopes of finding a buyer who likes the price and/or the resume or samples you provide. There was a time when none of the legitimate sites charged an upfront fee. That is no longer the case. Some sites require a percentage of your wages for the service they provide (introducing you to companies in need of your services). Others require monthly fees, and some require a specific payment for each bid you make.

3) Job listing boards. All over the Internet you will find various job listing boards. Some of them are names that are widely recognized and even have huge television ad campaigns running. There are a few of these boards that specialize in work at home or telecommuting positions. If you are looking for a work at home job it would be in your best interest to keep these in mind. These positions are often a little more highly competitive but if you have the experience can be a huge source of potential work at home gold for you.
