Finding a Mentor Should be a Priority When Starting a Home Business

Most top Internet entrepreneurs know one of the best ways to find success with a home business is to find a good mentor—or to be a good mentor.

Even the top marketing gurus aren’t working in a vacuum. No man or women can be as successful as they can be without input from another person.

But most people who start online businesses aren’t experts, don’t know what they are doing right and certainly don’t know what they are doing wrong. That’s why it’s so important for those who are new to network marketing to find someone they trust to help them out.

One of the best aspects of Internet-based businesses is that people are willing to help newbies, mostly because, at one time or another, we were all newbies. Most of the successful network marketers had plenty of failed businesses and ideas before finally finding their niche. Talking to such a person is vital for the success of any business.

Of course, the best online businesses incorporate a mentoring system into them. In fact, if you are completely new to network marketing, you should probably look for online businesses that have mentoring systems in place.

Why is having a mentor important? They can:

—Give you guidance and help you make decisions. Remember, if you are new to this, it can be difficult to know even the most basic aspects of marketing your business;

—Let you in on new marketing strategies or ways to build your business;

—Give you advice on marketing methods to embrace or stay away from. We all get e-mails or see new online opportunities. A mentor can help you stay clear of certain businesses and guide you toward others;

—Keep you motivated when you get discouraged. Nothing is better than having someone you admire and trust tell you that you’re doing a great job.

If you do find a mentor, it’s a good idea not to abuse this relationship. Don’t rely on your mentor to such an extent that you find you can no longer make even the most basic decisions by yourself. They are a mentor, not a paid consultant.

It’s probably a good idea to set up ground rules, such as when to contact, whether phone calls are okay, and limit the number of e-mails you send your mentor.

And if you decide to be a mentor, be committed to the process and try not to lose patience. It’s always good to remind yourself that you were once a green newbie, too. A good mentor is accessible and patient.

No man—or woman—is an island. We must interact and share information to make the most of our businesses, because the bottom line is individuals in a business need to be successful in order for the business to be successful.
